Tertulia Hispanic Voices

Hispanic Poetry in the Heart of Carrboro

Last Saturday was particularly special. The Oasis Botanical Lounge in the heart of Carrboro, NC, hosted artists and Authors of North Carolina for another edition of Tertulia Voces Hispanas. This summer, the literary gathering celebrated Tertulia’s first anniversary. To make it sound even more romantic, most of the authors arrived with a torrential downpour, what I called a “baptism from the Heavens.”

Authors of Tertulia

Honoring the authors who participated in the last Tertulia. I want to mention their names and nationalities.

I begin with Bertha Martínez Velázquez, from Mexico, who has never missed an author gathering and is a person who deeply inspires me.

The poet Taty Hernández Durán, from the Dominican Republic. A breath of fresh air who brings music to our ears.

The newcomers: Rosa Herrera, from Costa Rica; Leticia Carvajal, from the Dominican Republic; Rebeca Cabrera, from Costa Rica.

We celebrated the return of poet and writer Pablo Rojas from Chile.

We were absolutely delighted by the presence of Kellyn Camacaro from Venezuela, sharing her memoir on healing with sounds.

Finally, the special moderation skills of Rodrigo Tossi from Chile. Thank you all for your time; the most wonderful gift.

Au revoir!

Being a defender of art and literature is a labor of love and giving (entrega in Spanish). There is so much time and energy put into this passion that often people who love the letters and brush end up exhausted. My work is not about making money; it’s about making art. Preserving the most human quality we possess has become my way to survive the uncertainty of being Hispanic in the United States of America. As I dig deeper into this self-implied mission, I need more understanding, more support, and more love. That’s why I ask my readers to share, like, and comment on my posts. Help my message of humanity spread. Creativity is our connection with the divine. Do not allow people using Generative AI to take it away from us. Advocate for regulating the use of AI, and support local authors. Until we meet again.
