Searching Harmony and Love

The life of an author

Sometimes it’s hard to call myself an author. It comes like a sting or a sore on my heart. The persistence and the tenacity I put into my art are sometimes incredibly painful. Oftentimes you hear about author’s block. In my opinion, there is no such thing. Authors go through times of observation, times of illness, times of loss, and times for recovery. It’s safe to say that I’m learning to accept that I’m not always in the mood for writing.

Times of Observation

Since last October, my health has been the culprit of my creative mind. I translate this to a lack of energy due to poor sleep and high alertness. Women have it tough after their forties, but in truth, women have it hard always. We get paid less than men for the same jobs. We get discriminated against in politics, sometimes by other women. We don’t get the right medical attention compared to men, especially when it comes to hormone treatments.

The Book by My Side

That’s why this book I will tell you about resonated so much with me. One of the first people I met upon moving to North Carolina was someone who, at the time, was a teenager I came to admire. She was talented, kind, and brought so much joy to my life every time we met. To my surprise—though not really, because she was always super artistic—she just debuted with her first novel called God is Harder on Girls. And I’m so happy to announce that soon she will be doing her first presentation at a local indie bookstore in Carrboro, NC. If you are in the area, meet Ella Dodson.

Times for Recovery

It is undeniable that the current crisis in Cuba is affecting me. There are a lot of memories and a deep sense of belonging rising within. The way I left my country sixteen years ago—that seems like ages—was abrupt and felt like I was being amputated from my tribe. On one side, I was excited to see my family again and know another land. But after a while, reality taught me that magnetic poles are there for a reason. Cuba will always be in my heart as my true home that I can never go back to.

Art is King

Last weekend was a well-rested one. I spent three days at a farm with friends doing not much besides soaking in nature, eating well, and playing with dogs. When I returned, I was ready to continue preparations for upcoming events. I invite you to check out this link on my website, where you will find all the events I have planned for the next couple of months.

Au Revoir!

And that’s it for today. I hope you enjoy your weekend. Thank you for reading my weekly posts and supporting my passion for books and creativity. Don’t forget to check my Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok pages. My coloring book is available only on Amazon for now, but it will soon be available in other stores. If you are interested in the Spanish version of the book, use the language link above this page to select your language, or use this link.
