A Dog Mom’s Heart
As you can guess from the cover of my book, I absolutely love dogs. I currently share my life with a “dog-ter,” Maya Bug, a spirited Cowboy Corgi, and a “God dog-ter,” Tiny, a sassy Chihuahua. These two have become an inseparable pair. They roughhouse, eat together, take walks side by side, and often snuggle up for naps. Their dynamic is a constant source of entertainment and warmth.
The Blessings of Companionship
Having a dog in my life is a true blessing. They bring immense joy, unwavering companionship, and daily humor. When the world feels chaotic, my dogs remind me of how simple and beautiful life can be. For Maya, nothing is more important than her next meal. Tiny, on the other hand, is equally enthusiastic about food and demands lots of cuddles and pets.
A Meaningful Life Change
The companionship of an animal has changed my life in profound ways. I used to leave the house without a return time; now, I have a furry family waiting, which means I head home sooner.
Many places don’t allow dogs, which requires me to research pet-friendly locations if I want an outing with Maya. Even more importantly, I’ve become deeply health-conscious. I am now hyper-aware of healthy foods for my entire family, and that definitely includes my two furry kids.
Prioritizing What Truly Matters
A significant part of my routine involves extensively researching the best ways to feed my dogs. I also enjoy cooking homemade meals and treats for them. Some people might assume I have endless free time, but I would kindly argue this: We have to make room for what truly matters. The health and well-being of my family hold a VIP voucher with me—no exceptions.
My Routine, Our Rhythm
For the last four years, I’ve settled into this important daily routine:
Early Morning: A long walk with Maya.
Mid-Morning: Feed Maya, followed by my personal yoga practice.
Work Block: Make coffee, then head to the office for a couple of hours.
Lunch & Cleanup: Fix lunch (Maya always helps keep the floors veggie-free!).
Afternoon Errands: Run errands with Maya. She loves visiting with people and is a regular at the bank, post office, Home Depot, and the Town Hall.
Evening: Afternoon walk and dinner.
This structure is vital because Maya truly thrives on daily interaction and new experiences.
Fostering Healthy Habits and Creativity
Because life constantly throws curveballs, it’s essential that I maintain good, healthy habits within my routine, such as drinking enough water, exercising, and meditating.
I intentionally reserve my night hours for writing, painting, and reading. This ensures I am relaxed and ready for rest before bedtime. A great part of boosting my creativity is actively reducing stress. For instance, playing with your pets creates a strong bond and trust, just as reading a book with your children helps create connection and good memories.
